New Order, TX - (GNS)
- For Mao the small step that lead to revolution began in a cave in the mountains the pronunciation of which has changed too many times to print it correctly.
For Adolf it was in the beer halls of Berlin.
For Muhammed it was on some imaginary trip in the desert.
And for George W. Bush the path to empire began in the Permian Basin, where the air is drenched with the smell of oil and there's no one around to see what you're up to.
There were prophets before Dubya, as there was John the Baptist before Jesus, as King David preceded Ariel Sharon, as Diem preceded Thieu.
Goldwater in '64. He laid so much of the groundwork, executing a defeat so massive that the notion of a rebounding rise of the ultra-conservative wing of the Republican party was a standing joke among pundits and political comics such that it took everyone by surprise when Reagan was elected.
Reagan was a prophet, first gaining prominence not in the narrow stone pathways of Jerusalem or on the beaches of Iwo Jima, but in the backrooms where deals were made to destroy the careers of actors suspected of being Communists.
There was John Birch, whom Dylan had the audacity to mock. There was Phyllis Schlafly and Anita Bryant, there to remind everyone that not all women were nurturing and progressive, and speak power to falsehood, giving lie to the popular concept that if women ran things there would be no war, or some such nonsense.
And of course there was Nixon, the first in the current line to coordinate all the malevolent forces and grasp that a modern American president could form a nascent police state, incrementally, step by step.
And there was the addled cooperation of so many Democrats: the senators and congressmen who saw those who stood up to Nixon and the CIA fall to defeat at the hands of the Moral Majority and Corporate Right-wing came around so that the likes of Joe Lieberman now sit where folks like Frank Church and Fred Harris once stood, and the likes of Al Gore stumble where men like Hubert Humphrey and Wayne Morse strode.
And then there was Bush, the Elder, scion of the CIA and Big Oil, a war hero like JFK (one lost a boat, the other a plane, though George Herbert didn't rescue anyone), whose jobs included saving the CIA from Sen. Church and the various post-Watergate investigations.
Daddy Bush begat Dubya and Jeb.
And Dubya, with a born-again Attorney General more suggestive of Heydrich than Jefferson, sperm from John Mitchell's wet dreams; with a Vice President so shrouded in mystery and practiced in betrayal of middle-class interests as to make Judas look like a Saint; and with a Secretary of War so, as Jagger would say, practiced in the art of deception, as to suggest Jon Lovitz should play him in the movie, and so married to the mob of weapons manufacturers as to suggest that man can indeed copulate with shoulder-held rocket-launchers and give birth to a gaseous offspring of weapons of mass destruction, now stands on the precipice of empire.

"I have been to the mountaintop. I have a dream. I dream that one day men and women of every color and creed will serve together willingly in an army of invasion, an army of first strikes, an army of unilateral, pre-emptive military actions, an army of war. Longevity is a great thing, it has it's place."      With U.S. troops in over 140 countries, around the world, with a vague war resolution in one hand and a very specific, singular version of the Bible in the other, not wearing a stitch of clothes, Emperor Bush, through the trappings if not the reality of democracy has achieved what Caesar, Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, Khomeini, Hussein and all the other aspiring world "leaders" never did: He is in charge of a New World Order, the largest, fiercest, most politically adept; trained in the art of precision campaigning, showmanship, media manipulation and precision bombing.

Somewhere in a cave, or a beer hall, or on an imaginary trip in the desert, someone is rewriting the old tune, changing the words to read: "We Shall Overthrow..."
Did anyone realize that when Nixon said "Justice delayed is justice denied," that he meant that as a goal?      Which reminds me of a joke.
"Two Jews walk into a Concentration camp..."
