![]() LIEBERMAN WILL RUN FOR PRESIDENCY "I Support The President" He Declares Afford, CT - (GNS) - Senator Joe Lieberman (R.-CT) announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States, Terriroties & Colonies today, declaring "I support the President" and muttering about the American Dream and jeopardy. "The American Dream is like a game of jeopardy," he said, "threatened by ridiculous game shows and reality shows run by hateful terrorists and tyrants. A weak economy is not the answer for Americans to live a better life, but is that the question?" "We must rise above partisan politics and put our country first to fix our economy and restore economic growth, and my continued support of the President demonstrates I can rise above partisan politics, so how about a cheer for me?" Lieberman read from his prepared statement. Lieberman joins a field that includes Senators John Kerry of Massachusetts, John Edwards of North Carolina, Representative Richard Gephardt of Missouri, former Gov. Howard Dean of Vermont and the Rev. Al Sharpton of New York City. "Remember," he said, "I'm the only one who ran with Al Gore, and we actually won. If numbers counted, I'd be Vice President right now. Think about it." On several major issues, he has taken positions that set him to the right of many of his Democratic colleagues. He has backed capital-gains tax cuts for small business, for example, using the argument that "you can't get corporate funding unless you sell out." He has also backed the death penalty and a moment of silence in schools, according to The Almanac of American Politics. Lieberman has criticized violence in movies, music and video games, and publicly denounced President Clinton for his affair with a White House intern and said the president deserved to be severely rebuked. In contrast to his stand on violence in entertainment, Lieberman favors war with just about everybody, according to The Almanac of Hawks. |
